Profile
We work across the full spectrum of the built environment — from the sensitive restoration of listed buildings and the careful reinvention of properties within conservation areas, to bespoke high-end residential, art, and retail commissions. Our projects span London and the Cotswolds, with work extending to New York and Los Angeles.
Heritage and sustainability sit at the heart of the practice. As RIBA Conservation Register architects and an RIBA Chartered Practice, we bring rigour and genuine care to historically significant buildings — understanding that the most responsible architecture begins with what already exists. The same discipline applies to environmental performance: with Passivhaus Designer accreditation within the practice, we design spaces that are as efficient and healthy to inhabit as they are beautiful.
We have no house style. Every project is shaped by close listening — by the specific demands of the client, the building, and its context. The result is architecture of considered detail and careful material selection: spaces that are distinctive, deeply personal, and a genuine pleasure to inhabit.
The best projects begin with the right relationship. If you are considering a restoration, a new commission, or simply want to explore what your building could become, we would welcome the opportunity to listen.
Augustus Brown
Augustus graduated with first-class honours and a RIBA Bronze Medal nomination before completing his MArch at the Royal College of Art, London. After working with leading London practices, he founded Augustus Brown Architects in 2009.
He holds RIBA Conservation Register accreditation and is a certified Passivhaus Designer, bringing deep expertise in sustainable design — working at the intersection of heritage and environmental performance, and holding the conviction that the two are complementary, not competing, ambitions.
He brings equal experience to the design and delivery of projects — as fluent in the making of a compact exhibition display system as in the realisation of a 12,000 sq ft retail flagship or a carefully considered family home. That hands-on understanding of how buildings are actually put together is what allows the vision to be fully realised.
